Art Program
MISSION STATEMENT
The Art Program has designed its curriculum to fulfill the general purpose of an institution affiliated with the North Carolina Synod of the ELCA (Develop the whole person, liberate mind and spirit, clarify personal faith foster physical wholeness, build a sense of community, promote responsible leadership for service in the world), whose undergraduate programs are committed to the liberal arts tradition. The Art Program strives for excellence through academic rigor and professional discipline, preparing competent individuals in the area of visual arts with a strong theoretical, historical, and philosophical framework for the arts in general. It is also an integral part of the Art Program's mission to develop a heightened awareness of the specific needs of individuals and groups from culturally different backgrounds as well as a professional sensitivity to aesthetic principles through strong studio experiences and direct exposure to experiential learning in the community.
The art program offers majors in GRAPHIC DESIGN and STUDIO ART and minors in ART THERAPY and VISUAL ARTS.

The Art Therapy program prepares students to better understand the nonverbal way of communicating emotions through images which come from the subconscious. It is both a diagnostic tool and a therapeutic means of emotonal conflict resolution.
